Young Veggie Writing Competition - National Vegetarian Week 2012

Kids can have their say about vegetarianism with our new writing competition, which has been set up to help celebrate National Vegetarian Week 2012. The competition's featured in March's Issue of Vegetarian Living (page 59).

Catering for vegetarians at Christmas - the Vegetarian Society on the radio

In the run up to the festive period, the Vegetarian Society have been busy speaking to journalists about the best ways to cater for veggies over the festive season. Press Officer, Su Taylor, spoke to BBC Radio Somerset about catering for vegetarians at Christmas and you can listen again on BBC iPlayer [from 1:46:56].

Also, Dr Jon Green, CEO, went to visit the BBC Radio Manchester team to discuss catering for veggies at Christmas - as well as to speak about our Twelve Days of Christmas booklet and Christmas Food Poll. The Vegetarian Society on The Hairy Bikers BBC2

The Vegetarian Society featured on yesterday's (16 November) vegetarian episode of The Hairy Bikers, as part of their Best of British series. Our Head of Communications, Liz O'Neill and Cordon Vert's Principal Tutor, Alex Connell both featured in the show, along with some of our lovely volunteers.

The Hairy Bikers discussed the history of vegetarianism with Liz, as well as making Ocean Pie (fish-free dish) in the Cordon Vert kitchen with Alex and the volunteers.

The Christmas Magazine – Veggie recipes

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall causes controversy
13 October 2011

TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall caused controversy this week as he said "it's an artificial construct of our society, a cultural decision, to make pets out of dogs and meat out of pigs."

Here at the Vegetarian Society we couldn't agree more - after all, we do have our Butcher's Cat website (www.butcherscat.com) which raises just this issue.

The Big Veggie Survey in the news

The Vegetarian Society launched its Big Veggie Survey this week. So far it's been mentioned in Vegetarian Living magazine and in vegetarianliving online

Cook Vegetarian magazine have tweeted the survey location and it will appear in the next issue.

The Grocer on line has asked its readers to spill the beans.

Morrissey gets venues to go meat-free

A Belgian music festival, which prides itself on its horse-meat sausages, is going meat-free on the day that vegetarian singer Morrissey performs. More

Liz O'Neill was asked onto Stephen Nolans Radio Show on Radio Five Live to chat about the venues decision with Chef Brian Turner.
