Vegetarian Society approval offers consumers an easily identified standard of vegetarian labelling, allowing them to recognise the difference between minimum vegetarian standards and the higher criteria associated with Vegetarian Society approval.

The ‘Vegetarian Society Approved’ Symbol ensures a product or meal is free from meat, fowl, fish or shellfish, and ingredients resulting from slaughter; is GMO free and is free from cross contamination with non vegetarian ingredients during the production process. In addition, any eggs used in a product must be free range.

· Vegetarian Society Approved products are licensed to use the Society’s ‘seedling’ logo, indicating that they meet strict criteria for vegetarian suitability. The logo does not indicate a partnership of any kind between the Society and the manufacturers or retailers of approved products.

As well as appearing on over 5000 product lines, the Vegetarian Society’s seedling symbol trademark is also displayed on restaurant, hotel and café menus and on displays in mobile catering units and university and college eateries all over the UK, all as members of the Society’s highly influential Food & Drink Guild scheme.
