Veggie Kids Kitchen
With a recent survey revealing that almost half of youngsters in the UK never or rarely help prepare their family's evening meal, the Vegetarian Society hopes that its new booklet Veggie Kids Kitchen will help reverse the trend. The survey, by a major supermarket, also found that children preferred watching TV or using the internet to getting involved with cooking, but the ten fun and filling recipes in the charity's new free booklet should be enough to entice even the most reluctant young chef into the kitchen. Nutrition, ideas for everyday fast food and safety tips are all included, along with tempting photographs of each dish. Jamie Johnson, Youth Education Officer at the Vegetarian Society said,”Cooking is a great way to have fun with your children whilst developing their creativity, teaching them the ropes in the kitchen, and encouraging a love of food.” Young cooks will love making Party Pizza, Rainbow Frittata, Spicy Mini Wraps followed by, for a sweet tooth, Surprise Chocolate Brownies and Apple Crisp. The booklet Veggie Kids’ Kitchen is free to get hold of, just call 0161 925 2000 and a copy will wing its way to you. A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products. • The poll was undertaken for supermarket chain Morrisons. The poll of 1,000 children and 1,000 parents showed both generations still hold the ability to cook in high regard, with 80% viewing a culinary ability as an important skill. • This booklet was funded by a generous grant made by the Cyril Corden Trust. The trust supports the projects of existing charities which will result in lasting advances in vegetarian, vegan or humanitarian causes.
