Wizzy the Beaver Honoured as New Club for Young Veggies Launched

The first member of the Vegetarian Society’s new club for young veggies is, unexpectedly, a baby beaver.

The Twiggy Club is for youngsters aged ten and under and aims to give young vegetarians a voice, support and activities just for their age group. More information can be found on www.youngveggie.org or by calling 0161 925 2000.

The Twiggy Club is named after Twiggy the beaver, based at the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust (WWT) Martin Mere Centre. Twiggy was made an honorary member of the Vegetarian Society in 2007 for her contribution, on BBC’s Autumnwatch, to ensuring that everyone knows that veggies (and beavers) do not eat fish.

Twiggy recently gave birth to Wizzy, the first ever beaver to be hand reared in the UK, and that special baby beaver is the first honorary member of the new club.

Liz O’Neill, Head Of Communications at the Vegetarian Society, said, “By joining the Twiggy Club you’ll get to take part in activities with veggies of a similar age and get the suppport of other young veggies. You can contribute to the club as well as getting some fun stuff sent to you that’s exclusive to members!”

Joining the Twiggy Club costs just £10. On joining, Twiggy Club members receive their very own Twiggy Club membership card, an activity book full of puzzles and veggie facts, a cookery booklet, Twiggy Club special edition keyring and stickers. Members will also receive their very own Twiggy Club newsletter four times a year.

The Vegetarian Society is a registered charity formed in 1847, for more information visit www.vegsoc.org
