From Monday 2 March 2020 it’s National Pie Week! As we have an abundance of pies licensed to carry our Vegetarian Society Approved vegetarian and vegan trademarks, we thought we would pair each day of the week with a delicious meat-free pie.
Monday – Holland’s Pies – Cheese & Onion Pie
Keep it classic on a Monday with Holland’s Cheese & Onion Pie. Lancashire-sourced cheddar cheese is blended with onion and baked in their golden shortcrust pastry. Perfect with creamy mashed potatoes and well-seasoned shredded greens.
Tuesday – Linda McCartney – Vegetarian Country Pie
A firm family favourite in lots of meat-free households, these delicious pies are suitable for vegans. With a shortcrust pastry base that’s filled with soya mince and rich onion gravy and a light and crispy puff pastry lid, this pie ticks all the boxes!
It’s hump day and it’s time for something a little bit different… Higgidy have loads of great pies, but this is our personal favourite! It’s made with a spelt shortcrust pastry that’s filled with feta cheese and spinach and hand-topped with roasted butternut squash. Once baked in the oven, the scattering of toasted quinoa and pumpkin seeds adds a great crunchy texture to the comforting filling.
This isn’t a “pie” in the strictest sense of the word, but it tastes so delicious we had to include it in our list! Quorn have loads of great new products licensed to carry our vegetarian and vegan trademarks, but you can’t forget the classics! The warm, hearty filling is topped with creamy mash – perfect comfort food after a long day at work.
Celebrate the end of the working week with this delicious leek and potato pie. With sliced leeks and diced potatoes in a creamy mature cheese sauce, encased in light and fluffy puff pastry, it’s the perfect treat for Friday night.
It’s time to spice things up for the weekend and Holy Chipotle certainly packs a punch, with a filling of smoky chipotle black beans, sweet potato and coriander. There are two pocket-sized patties per pack – ideal for sharing (or not!)
Finish your week with something sweet! This apple pie carries our vegan trademark and is definitely worth the indulgence! The pastry is flaky and crispy and the deep layers of the best seasonally available apples have a fabulous texture and just the right amount of tartness.
