Press Coverage of our open letter to the EU
We were pleased to see the recent coverage of our open letter to the European Commission covering the proposed ban of terms like ‘Sausage’ and ‘Burger’ for plant-based foods.
What is our letter about?
The EU is considering a ban on terms like ‘Burger’ and ‘Sausage’ being used to refer to plant-based foods. The supposed reason for this ban is to stop consumers being confused between plant-based and meat foods using the same generic terms. Our evidence shows that this is simply not the case. While the proposed ban is being considered by the EU Commission, the UK would likely have to abide by its terms according to our trade deal with the EU.
What have newspapers been covering?
One of the signatories to our open letter was our patron, Sir Paul McCartney. Understandably, much of the press coverage has focused on his (and his family’s) support:
The Independent

The Guardian

The Times

Politico

The Telegraph

The Daily Mail

There has been a range of international coverage too.
People Magazine (USA)

RTE (IRELAND)
