Michael’s Promise: Protecting What Matters Most
“I’ve protected the people I love and ensured the Vegetarian Society can continue to make the world a better place.”
“I trust the Vegetarian Society to decide what’s most important when the time comes.”
Vegetarian Society Trustee, Michael Krause, knows the value of planning ahead. When he updated his Will after twenty years, he did so with clarity and conviction. Having managed his parents’ estates, he understood how essential a Will is—not only for practical reasons, but as a way of caring for the people and principles that matter most to him.
“Unsurprisingly, my wife is my top priority,” he said. “But family and close friends are important too. Providing security for some and making life a bit more comfortable for others, are vital. At the same time, I’ve cared passionately throughout my life about a number of causes.”
Those causes include protecting wildlife, preventing animal cruelty, and living sustainably with a low carbon footprint. Having donated to and volunteered with charities for decades, he decided to ensure his Will reflects those long-term commitments.
The Vegetarian Society was a natural choice. Michael has been a member since the 1980s, when vegetarian options were scarce, and attitudes were far less supportive. Today, as a Trustee of the Society, he has seen first-hand how its work continues to inspire change.
“The world has changed, but one constant has been the Society, promoting the principles I hold dear,” he explains. “Sometimes quietly, sometimes campaigning with more energy—but always making the case for a diet that benefits the planet, animals, and our health.”
When considering his gift, Michael chose not to specify how it should be used. “I hope I live for decades yet. Who knows what will matter most by then? I trust the Vegetarian Society to decide what’s most important when the time comes.”
Michael has shared details of his Will with those closest to him, all of whom support his decision. “They understand the logic—helping charities I’ve supported in life to do even more after I’m gone.”
Michael has made sure his Will has the right impact: “I’ve protected the people I love and ensured the Vegetarian Society can continue to make the world a better place.”
If vegetarianism or the Vegetarian Society has ever been part of your life, whether through a recipe, an idea, or a shared belief—why not make it part of your future too?
