I'd like to be a judge!

If you would like to be considered for this fantastic (and delicious) volunteering opportunity, please complete these few questions by Friday 10th January. We’ll be in touch if you’re chosen to be one of the lucky four! See terms and conditions below.

I'd like to be a judge!

The British Pie awards – which take place during British Pie Week in early March at St. Mary’s Church in
Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire – are a key part of the Vegetarian Society’s calendar, as we have now
sponsored and judged their Vegetarian and Vegan Pie categories for several years. For the awards next
year, we’re giving Vegetarian Society members, like you, the opportunity to be our judges!

Vegetarian and vegan entries to the awards are always strong, with pies covered by the two classes winning 23 awards in total in 2024. There has even been an overall veggie winner in the past, as Pieminster’s vegetarian Gluten Free Mooless Pie was named Supreme Champion in 2022, seeing off almost a thousand other pies to take the crown!

How can you be a judge? It’s as easy as pie!

All you need to be one of our judges is an enthusiasm for pies, and the ability to be available on Wednesday 5th March 2025, when judging for the awards will take place.

We’re looking for four members to join Joey Fisher, our Individual Giving Manager, to cover judging across the two categories: two for the vegetarian class and two to judge the vegan class. We’ll even cover your travel and
your accommodation with an overnight hotel stay in Melton Mowbray!

Communications Officer, Chris Ogden, who was one of our representatives at the awards in 2023 and 2024, said:

“I’d fully recommend it to any of our members who want to get an insight into how passionate people in the pie world are – and to have the chance to sample some incredible veggie and vegan pies too!”
