Carrot, Cheese, and Onion Tart

Egg-Free, Nut-Free

This beautifully simple Carrot, Cheese, and Onion Tart is a perfect blend of flavours and textures. With the sweetness of grated carrots, the sharpness of Cheshire cheese, and the aromatic touch of smoked paprika, this tart is sure to be a hit at any meal.


Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 150g vegetarian Cheshire cheese, grated
  • 2 medium carrots, grated
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ⅛ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 x 320g pack ready rolled shortcrust pastry
  • 50ml milk
  • You will also need a greased 20cm flan/tart dish

Here is some of the change-making work we do…

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C / fan 180°C / gas 6.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all of the filling ingredients together.
  3. Line the flan dish with the pastry. Trim away any overhang.
  4. Transfer the filling to the lined dish and press down firmly.
  5. Using a pastry brush, glaze the edges of the pastry and the top of the filling.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve immediately or cool and refrigerate for 2-3 days.
