Egg-Free, Nut-Free, Suitable for Freezing

Scones are a quintessential British classic which can be enjoy with or without cream and jam.


Ingredients

  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 50g margarine
  • 25g caster sugar
  • 125ml milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • extra milk, for brushing

Here is some of the change-making work we do…

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 230°C / fan 210°C / gas 7.
  2. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl.
  3. Cut margarine into small pieces and use your fingers to rub into the mixture, until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Add the sugar and milk, then mix into a soft dough.
  5. Roll out onto a floured surface. Cut the scones out using a 6cm wide cutter and place on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Brush with a little milk and bake for 7 to 10 mins.
  7. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
