Artisan Cheese Awards

The Artisan Cheese Awards Melton Mowbray
The Vegetarian Society sponsored and judged the vegetarian category of the Artisan Cheese Awards.
On the 9th May the search began to find the winners of the Artisan Cheese Awards vegetarian category, we sent along two judges Ben Worth, our Director of Development and Nikita Gordon, Chef Manager at the Vegetarian Society Cookery School.
Ben said: “Myself, Nikita, our Chef Manager, and two others were tasked with judging 25 vegetarian cheeses based on appearance, texture, aroma and taste. There was a wide selection, ranging from delicate soft cheeses through to bold blues. Personal preference came into play with some having an acquired taste. To be honest by the end of the day I was a bit cheesed out I’m sure it won’t last long though! Really looking forward to the winners being announced.”
Nikita Gordon, said: “Being a judge you really got to see the wide variety of different vegetarian cheeses and their flavours profiles. The obvious passion the artisan cheese creators showed in their products really came across I can’t wait to try some of them in the kitchen.”
