A group of young cooks were in for an extra-special (and super-tasty) treat last week when they visited the Vegetarian Society Cookery School.
The Young Baker is a class for kids aged seven and up and lets little ones (along with a helpful adult) make delicious dishes they can take home for their friends. It’s a fun and messy chance for youngsters to learn new skills like measuring and turn-taking this summer holiday, and gives kids the chance to unleash their creative side.
The kitchen was buzzing with this batch of budding bakers! The class was all about making vegan banana and chocolate muffins from scratch. It was great to see so many young people really enjoying time in the kitchen and getting messy as they got stuck into making their muffins.
Every child also got to choose their own toppings and decorate their muffins however they wanted – the best bit!
John from the Vegetarian Society took his seven-year-old son Joshua to the first class of the summer to find out more.
John said: “I know when the school summer holidays come along it’s tricky to find enough interesting things to do to keep the little ones entertained. The children learnt about baking, made friends with each other, and got to try new foods and flavours. I loved that Joshua could get stuck into cooking without messing up our kitchen at home!”
Here’s what Joshua had to say!
Everyone couldn’t wait to show off their creations at home. There were certainly no takers to do the washing up!
We hope everybody had a great time and were inspired to keep making veggie and vegan food all year round.
The Young Chef
Fancy something a bit different this summer holiday? On 29 August, we’ll be putting on The Young Chef class for ages 7+, where each child (and their adults) can try their hand building their own burger.
Make a tasty veggie burger and loaded fries from scratch with the help of our expert tutor, Maz. Create and stack your burger with a range of sauces, slaws and salads, then load up those fries to give your child’s delish dish its own unique style. It’s time to get those taste buds tingling!
