Chicken Run sequel: a vegan morality tale?

Richard McIlwain, CEO of the Vegetarian Society, comments on the sequel to Chicken Run.

December has seen the launch of a new animated film Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.

The Aardman animated film stirred up a discussion as to whether it was a morality tale. It features the story of chickens being rescued from a chicken nugget factory. The creators say any change in viewers diet is just a happy accident.

We were contacted by the Guardian for a comment. “I’m a big fan of the approach,” says Richard McIlwain, CEO of the UK Vegetarian Society. “Whether or not they’ve set out to make a vegan morality tale, the reality is that this is what happens in poultry farms. They’re not making it up.”

You can read the Guardian article and Richard’s full comment, his thoughts on the film were re-used in the Mail. The Mail also referenced our Facebook post on the topic where we asked if people thought the film was a morality tale and included one of the responses we received from a mother whose daughter had refused to eat chicken after watching the original Chicken Run film.

The film is in cinemas and on Netflix.
