Blackberry and Apple Jam

Jam is easy to make by simmering fruit, sugar and a little water together, so you can’t go far wrong.

Ingredients

  • 450g blackberries
  • 225g Bramley or similiar cooking apples peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • 200g granulated sugar or less depending on how sweet you like it

Method

  1. Before starting, make sure your jars, spoons and pans are all sterile.
  2. Place the blackberries and apples in a large pan and add the water and lemon juice, then simmer for 15 minutes until tender.
  3. Add the sugar and stir over a low heat until the sugar has dissolved. Then bring to the boil and boil rapidly for 10-15 minutes until setting point is reached.
  4. Remove from the heat then pot and cover immediately.
